Literature in English
More than 10 years experience
Literature-in-English is not as difficult as many students think, it only has to do with using appropriate approaches in studying it. With my teaching experience, I have observed that;
(a) Literature is boring to many students;
(b) some students do not read the actual drama and prose texts prescribed, but rely on only the summaries in some textbooks;
(c) some read the texts but do not know how to interpret what they have read; etc.
Therefore, the first step in my teaching approach is developing a reasonable learning attitude, if there is none or little.
Poetry, which seems the most difficult to students among the three genres of Literature because of its use of language, will cease to be after few classes on poetry.
Many of the students I have taught are in the universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education of their choices.
