The purpose of creative writing is to both entertain and to express certain emotions or share experiences. This can be done through poetics, storytelling and many other forms of written art. The use of one's imagination is key.
Some nonfiction types of writing can also be considered creative writing. Memoirs and personal essays, for example, can be written creatively. In writing, one harps on character development, plot, theme, point of view, dialogue, anecdotes, metaphors and similes, figures of speech, imaginative language and so much more.
It is a a creation process and a very interesting but tasking one too. As Stephen King said, "Description begins in the writer's imagination, but should finish in the reader's"
